An ancient spell first used in 1786 by clergy to protect state property during transport. Legend has it that the text of the spell was stolen by Ottoman traders who sold it to the Janissaries. Palace scribes translated the text into Ottoman using Arabic words. The spell became popular in the Sultan's palace, where it was used by wet nurses to protect children from theft.
