In ancient Egypt, during periods of devastating droughts, when swarms of insects and dangerous animals threatened human health, one prayer was considered especially potent. It was recited over the suffering, emaciated by fever and chills, who desperately longed for healing.

This same prayer served as a powerful charm during dangerous expeditions when Egyptians ventured into places teeming with predatory beasts and venomous creatures. It was their invisible shield against unseen and visible threats.

Starting from the Third Dynasty, the sacred significance of the prayer grew even further: it became an integral part of the ritual for protection against poisoning. It was recited over an already filled baptismal font, and the priest, circling it, whispered the sacred words intended to grant salvation.

USES

• To restore peace to the home, especially if quarrels and disagreements occur
• To ward off an evil person who interferes in the home or in life
• To soothe the temper of someone who abuses substances (e.g., alcohol)
• To ward off animals from the home that could cause damage to the property
• To open a path to good fortune, especially if the profession involves trade or interacting with people
• To lower body temperature if its rise is associated with animal bites, insects, ingestion of poisons or substances
