Prayer was extremely popular during the meetings of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by the letters of Jesus' personal scribe. St. Mark the Evangelist carefully copied this text, sitting for long evenings writing in his cell.

The text stood the test of time, remaining hidden until the late 18th century in a monastery in Genoa, Italy. In the turbulent years of 1796 and 1797, Napoleon, then Doge of Genoa, ensured the safe passage of the text along with other manuscripts to France.
