PRAYER TO ST. LUCIA
PRAYER TO ST. LUCIA
Couldn't load pickup availability
The prayer was given as an angelic revelation after a morning nap by the Roman Christian martyr Lucia of Syracuse, also called Saint Lucia. She used the prayer for personal protection and passed it on to other sisters in the monastery. She often passed it on to children to avoid parental punishment for naughty behavior.
The text of the prayer was first found in a monastery where Lucia of Syracuse hid from the persecution of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Later, handwritten texts of this prayer were found in various monasteries in Europe in the cells of nuns who claimed that Saint Lucia appeared to them in a dream and recited this text. Several texts were found in various churches in southern Italy and France and were transferred to the Vatican Library for safekeeping. One of these texts was personally brought from Avignon to the Vatican by the Pope.
