The prayer, secretly preserved within the walls of the temples of Ancient Egypt, remained accessible for centuries only to priests and their disciples. It was revealed to the common people only on special occasions, when the clergy would come out to the people and pronounce sacred words, invoking a blessing upon the community.

This prayer gained particular popularity during the 7th Dynasty. It was then that it first spread beyond the confines of temples—it began to be carved on stone doorway arches, hoping to protect homes from misfortunes and especially from the evil lurking in the darkness of night.

A house adorned with these lines became more than just a dwelling—it was perceived as a sacred space. Anyone who entered it was expected to show respect to its inhabitants, for the inscription testified to the owners' affiliation with an ancient and venerable priestly family.
