This ancient prayer, dating back to the Babylonian period, was written in Akkadian and Sumerian, with the Akkadian version later used by the prophet Moses. According to tradition, he received the prayer at the age of 14 from his adoptive mother on the day of the new moon as protection from illness and enemies. Before stopping at Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments, he recited this prayer. The text later became the basis for other prayers in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity (notably the Lord's Prayer). Echoes of this prayer also appear in the ritual texts of Voodoo, emphasizing its universal significance and antiquity.
