During the reign of the Fifth Dynasty in Ancient Egypt, temples became sites of special rituals. Prayers were offered there on "women's days"—dates marked by solar eclipses. The ancient Egyptians believed that it was during these unique moments that the feminine principle gained supremacy over the masculine.

This belief gave women the opportunity, by appealing to female spirit gods, to change unfavorable circumstances concerning childrearing and intimate relationships. During these sacred hours, men were forbidden to enter temples, lest they harm the fate of the women praying there.

USAGE

• To protect the family from troubles, including the younger generation
• To make the trouble that has come into the house go away from it (to stop the period of disasters)
• To calm down quarrels and crying in the family
• To protect children from being touched by strangers (beating, murder, etc.)
• So that food on the table does not run out and hunger subsides
• May the newlyweds always live peacefully with each other (read three times over a burning candle before the wedding night)
