HISTORY OF THE GOLDEN BOW RITUAL
The ritual text, dating back to the 7th century BC, belonged to the tenth sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Suleiman I the Magnificent, and was used by his mother, Hafsa Sultan, during her lifetime to promote her son to the throne.
Later, the prayer spell, with minor changes, became widespread throughout the Russian Empire among students in church parish schools in order to reduce the possibility of corporal or other punishment of students by priests, deacons and sextons.
