The lyrics were used during festival processions in Ancient Egypt, calling on the gods to listen to human souls and reveal the secrets of the future.

The song was part of a ritual of great divination called the Secrets of the Wheel of Fate. On this evening before midnight, people gathered in a circle and stood in front of a lit fire, reading the signs of fate. They read them from the patterns of snake skins, prepared in advance for the ritual.

It was believed that on this night the spirits were most favorable to tell the fate of a person and were most kind to people. Therefore, on this day, special attention was given to their children, reading special prayers with an appeal to the spirits who could protect them.
