ПЕСНЯ ЯСНОГО СЕРДЦА

SONG OF THE CLEAR HEART

THE STORY OF THE SONG OF THE CLEAR HEART

The original text dates back to the 1520s, when the tsar ordered the collection of taxes. The song-prayer helped to avoid troubles associated with taxes.

The song is connected with an interesting story about an old woman who wanted to bring her son home. The young man married a girl who was considered a witch by the whole village and was rumored to have gotten him drunk.

Once during a church service, where the old woman’s son and his young passion were present, the mother slipped a prayer-song into her son’s pocket while he was praying before the icon.

Three nights later, the son returned home to his mother, telling her that he had seen something strange that night after visiting the church. Waking up after midnight, he noticed that his girlfriend had started calling demons while standing in the corner in front of the icon. The same thing happened on the second night, and on the third.

Three nights later, in the morning, the girl left the house without leaving a trace. Only one thing seemed strange, that the scrap of paper with the song-prayer written on it was still lying in the caftan, only all burnt and torn.
