HISTORY OF THE PRAYER OF THE COVENANT OF THE NIGHT
The original text dates back to the Second Dynasty of ancient Egypt. The prayer was recited as part of the ritual of the night ablution of members of the royal family. The ritual used live snakes, specially grown, to call upon the power of snakes to protect the royal house. Part of the prayer text was inscribed on the walls of temples at the entrance as a talisman.
