HISTORY OF THE PRAYER PURITY OF DAWN
The original text was widely distributed among the nomadic population living in the regions of Egypt bordering Nubia (3000–2400 BC).
Part of the text was used as a temple prayer during the reign of the 18th Dynasty pharaoh Amenhotep III. It was part of the ritual of ablution performed by temple visitors before the pharaoh came out to the people. The performance of the ritual was strictly monitored by the priests and priestesses of the temples, since the spiritual purity of the room in which the pharaoh stepped was required.
